Washington, DC - The American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) announced today that "Tony and Janina's American Wedding" was chosen as the winner of the audience award as voted by AILA members during AILA's inaugural 2012 Immigration Film Festival. The film was one of nine immigration-themed films shown over three days at AILA's Annual Conference in Nashville, Tennessee, which was attended by nearly 3,000 immigration attorneys from around the country.
Audience members were honored to have Ruth Leitman, director of "Tony and Janina's American Wedding," available at the opening night screening. Ms. Leitman was on hand to introduce the film and hosted a Q&A session afterwards along with Royal Berg, the attorney who represented the immigrant family portrayed in the film.
The production is described as a film that "follows a Polish American family through the red tape of the current U.S. immigration system, telling the untold human rights story of post-9/11, that every undocumented immigrant in America faces today."
