AILA has just released two new Inside Immigration monographs:
- "J-1 Waiver Applications Under the Conrad State 30 Program"—Foreign medical graduates who complete graduate medical education in the United States in J-1 status must return to their home countries for two years unless they can obtain a waiver. The Conrad State 30 Program allows state Departments of Health to recommend up to 30 J-1 waivers per year, thus attracting doctors to areas with shortages of medical care or medically underserved populations. The AILA Health Care Professionals/Physicians Committee details the program in AILA’s new monograph, "J-1 Waiver Applications Under the Conrad State 30 Program."
- "Left Behind: Iraqis and Afghans Caught in a Sea of SIV Red Tape"—Those who helped U.S. forces in Iraq and Afghanistan are now at peril of their lives. Special immigrant visas (SIVs) are available for such Iraqis and Afghans, but are nearly impossible to get. Authors Dan Berger and others describe how some immigrants have overcome obstacle after obstacle to land safely in the United States.
