US-VISIT Entry Procedures Implemented at San Ysidro and Otay Mesa Land Ports of Entry

US-VISIT began, on December 9, biometric entry procedures at land ports of entry at San Ysidro and Otay Mesa, CA. DHS plans to implement US-VISIT at six other land ports this week. Visitors entering through these ports who require a Form I-94 or I-94W will be processed through US-VISIT at the secondary inspection area. AILA Doc. No. 04121370.

Update on ADIT (I-551) Stamps

CBP confirms that it will continue with its existing policy of honoring ADIT (I-551) stamps for reentry. Further, on-going discussions within USCIS regarding issuance of ADIT (I-551) stamps continue; additional information is anticipated in the next couple of days.

Land Ports of Entry to Start Testing US-VISIT in Mid-November

DHS will begin testing US-VISIT entry procedures in secondary inspection areas in mid-November in anticipation of the 12/31/04 implementation of US-VISIT at the 50 busiest land ports. Initial testing will begin in Douglas, Arizona; Port Huron, Michigan; and Laredo, Texas. AILA Doc. No. 04101562.

DHS to Expand Length of Stay under BCC

DHS Undersecretary Hutchinson announced on 8/10/04 that DHS will allow holders of border crossing cards and laser visas to remain in the U.S., in the border vicinity, for up to 30 days, rather than the 72 hours currently allowed.

DHS to Initiate Expedited Removal Beyond Ports of Entry

DHS Undersecretary Hutchinson announced on 8/10/04 that the use of expedited removal, the process by which individuals are removed from the U.S. without hearing, will be expanded to points within 100 miles along the northern and southern borders. The program is not intended for Mexicans or Canadians, but such nationals could be subjected to it.
