On 1/18/07, Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) re-filed the Agricultural Job Opportunities, Benefits and Security (AgJOBS) Act of 2007 as S. 340. Senator Feinstein originally introduced the bill as S. 237 on 1/10/07, the same day that Representative Howard Berman (D-CA) introduced an identical bill in the House (H.R. 371).
It appears, however, that additional senators wished to demonstrate their support for AgJOBS by joining Feinstein and others as "original cosponsors," members who cosponsor the bill at its introduction. In order to accommodate 11 additional senators, Feinstein re-filed the bill.
While the substance of the legislation remains unchanged, S. 340 includes a total of 16 original co-sponsors: Senators Boxer (D-CA), Clinton (D-NY), Craig (R-ID), Domenici (R-MN), Hagel (R-NE), Kennedy (D-MA), Kohl (D-WI), Leahy (D-VT), Martinez (R-FL), McCain (R-AZ), Murray (D-WA), Obama (D-IL), Salazar (D-CO), Schumer (D-NY), Specter (R-PA), and Voinovich (R-OH).
