ICE Issues New Procedures for Asylum Seekers Seeking Release From Detention

ICE Secure Communities Launched in Pinellas County, FL

On 11/10/09, the Pinellas County Sheriffs Office joined 12 Florida counties’ law enforcement agencies using the ICE Secure Communities program to receive biometrics-based immigration history information about individuals arrested. ICE Announces 1,000 New Workplace Audits

ICE Announces Secure Communities Initiative Launch in Counties in AZ, MI, and GA

On 11/12/09, DHS Secretary Janet Napolitano and ICE Assistant Secretary John Morton announced that ICE's Secure Communities initiative will have a presence in every state by 2011 and be available to every US law enforcement agency by 2013. Fort Worth Woman Sentenced to 44 Months for Visa Fraud Scheme

On 9/23/09 ICE announced that Maria Refugia Camarillo was sentenced to 44 months in federal prison following her guilty plea for conspiring to commit fraud in connection with immigration documents. Between 1980 and 2008 foreign nationals, who wanted to become U.S. permanent residents, paid Camarillo to arrange a marriage between them and a U.S. citizen. AILA Doc. No. 09092561.

Florida Man Convicted At Trial For Selling Fraudulent Indian Documents

On 9/22/09 ICE announced that Audie Watson of Tamarac, FL was found guiltyfor fraud, immigration, and money laundering crimes. Watson sold membership in a Native American tribe called the Pembina Nation Little Shell to undocumented aliens in order for them to make claims of Native American lineage to immigration authorities and thereby avoid removal. Immigration Consultant Sentenced to 41 Months in Prison for Fraud

Shahrzad Eram Soleimanlou, 59, of Falls Church, Va., was sentenced to 41 months in prison for defrauding vulnerable immigrant applicants of approximately $1 million from June 2000 through December 2005. ICE’s Miami Field Office Removes 423 Criminal Aliens in August

Four hundred twenty-three criminal aliens from 36 different countries were removed last month by deportation officers from the Ice Miami Field Office of Detention and Removal. The individuals who were removed had a variety of criminal convictions including assault, burglary, drugs, fraudulent activities, larceny, robbery, sexual assault and weapons offenses. AILA Doc. Miami Residents Sentenced for Conspiracy to Defraud Undocumented Individuals in Florida and New York

Leader Of International Counterfeit Immigration Document Ring Sentenced

Missouri Poultry Processing Plant Pays $450,000 Fine for Hiring Undocumented Workers

A May 2007 enforcement by ICE agents found 136 undocumented workers at George's Processing Plant in Springfield, MO. Twenty-eight workers were criminally prosecuted for various immigration violations, including falsely claiming U.S. citizenship. Houston Immigration Attorney Sentenced For Visa Fraud And Money Laundering

ICE announced that Kenneth Rothey, a Houston immigration attorney was convicted and sentenced on 8/18/09 for money laundering and conspiring to engage in visa fraud. Krispy Kreme Fined Following I-9 Audit

Chinese Buffet Restaurant Owner Sentenced and Fined for Hiring Undocumented Workers

On 2/9/09 ICE announced that the former owner of a Chinese buffet restaurant was sentenced to eight months of home confinement and three years probation on charges stemming from a 9/17/08 raid on two Chinese Buffet restaurants and two homes in Northern California, which resulted in the arrest of 21 undocumented workers. Six Texas Counties Now Checking Immigration Records Upon Booking Detainees

On 2/2/09, ICE announced that six counies in Southwest Texas have now been added to the Secure Communities program, under which the fingerprints of arrested individuals are simultaneously checked against both the FBI's criminal history records and the biometrics-based immigration records maintained by DHS. Alabama Construction Company Owner Charged for Harboring and Employing Illegal Aliens

On 1/29/09 ICE announced that the owner of Rodriguez Construction Company with offices in Alabaster, Alabama was charged in a three-count indictment for harboring illegal aliens, knowingly employing illegal aliens and with a forfeiture to recover profits made from employing illegal aliens. Superseding Indictments Charge IFCO Managers with Violating Federal Immigration Law

ICE Terminates Agreement to House Detainees at Detention Facility in Rhode Island

On 1/15/09 ICE announced that it has notified the Central Falls Detention Facility Corporation of the agency's intention to terminate the agreement to house detainees at the Donald Wyatt Detention Facility in Rhode Island. Restaurant Owner Sentenced to Eight Months for Knowingly Employing Undocumented Workers
