  • CBP to Allow Parole of Certain VWP Travelers Who Previously Overstayed (8/13/2004)
    Noting that "enforcement must always be tempered by common sense," Commissioner Bonner announced on 8/12/04 that CBP officers are authorized to grant "no-risk" travelers who overstayed the visa waiver program on a prior visit a one-time parole, after which they must obtain a visa to return.   • CBP Will Admit Some Journalists under B Status(95 KB - 5/21/2004)

  • CBP Dedicates FAST Lane in Laredo, Texas (4/19/2004)
    The Free and Secure Trade lane in Laredo, Texas was formally dedicated as an expedited clearance lane for known low-risk commercial shipments.   • BCBP Assigns Over 375 Additional Agents to Northern Border (7/2/2003)
    The Bureau of Customs and Border Protection (BCBP) has assigned over 375 additional Border Patrol agents to various locations along the northern border, bringing the total number of agents to 1,000 along the U.S. border with Canada. Funding for these additional permanent positions was provided in the FY 2003 budget passed by Congress.
