Rep. Lofgren Introduces “Detainee Basic Medical Care Act” (H.R. 5950)

On 05/01/08, Representative Zoe Lofgren (D-CA), introduced the “Detainee Basic Medical Care Act of 2008” (H.R. 5950). If passed, the bill would require the Secretary of Homeland Security to establish procedures for the timely and effective delivery of medical and mental health care to all immigration detainees in the custody of the Department of Homeland Security.

On 05/12/08, Senator Robert Menendez (D-NJ) announced that he was introducing a companion bill (S. 3005) in the Senate. Text of the Senate bill is not yet available.
