  • NSC Announces Projected Cut-Off Date for Asylee Adjustments
    The Nebraska Service Center projects that it will be processing asylee adjustment cases received on or before 3/31/00 during fiscal 2005. The impact of the Ngwanyia lawsuit has not been factored into this estimate.

    The Nebraska Service Center advises U.S. citizens with I-130s for a spouse or child under 21 that is pending at NSC, where the dependent is present in the U.S. on a K-3 or K-4, to forward a copy of the I-130 receipt and the I-94 to a specific NSC address to have the dependent processed as an adjustement, rather than consular, case.   • CSC to Process Certain I-130s from TSC and NSC
    The California Service Center has advised AILA that TSC and NSC will be forwarding new I-130s to CSC for processing. In addition, TSC will transfer pending immediate relative I-130s, as well as family-based preference cases with current priority dates, to CSC for processing.

    The Nebraska Service Center has advised AILA's NSC Liaison Committee of a change in the process for sending and receiving responses to notifications under 8 CFR 245.18(f) for I-485s based on National Interest Waiver I-140s for physicians in medically underserved areas.
  • Nebraska Service Center Addresses H-1B and O Issues
    The NSC advises of a quality review program for I-129s, provides a view into its thinking on O petitions, and advises on its view of 8th year H-1Bs in certain circumstances.
  • NSC Director Way To Retire
    Terry Way, Director of the Nebraska Service Center, will be retiring on May 28, 2004. Greg Christian, currently Deputy Director of the NSC, will become Acting Director of the NSC until a permanent replacement is named.

    In a teleconference with various community-based organizations, including AILA, the Nebraska Service Center addressed a variety of issues relating to asylees and refugees, including related adjustment of status and ancillary benefit questions. Some naturalization issues also were addressed.

    The Nebraska Service Center has indicated that it has moved I-140 processing into the Residence Product Line to facilitate concurrent adjudication of I-140s and I-485s, and has described how it is implementing the process. Information on FBI name check backlogs is provided.
