Cite as "AILA InfoNet Doc. No. 08091865 (posted Sep. 18, 2008)"

On 09/17/08, the House Judiciary Committee approved H.R. 6020, a bill that seeks to ease conditions for the naturalization of immigrants serving in the U.S. armed forces by a vote of 16-12.

The bill would streamline the citizenship process for foreign-born military personnel, the legal permanent residence process for their families of military personnel, and prevent deportation proceedings against undocumented immigrants who have served honorably in the military.

There were several amendments offered during the markup, but only a few minor amendments were adopted. Updated text of this bill will be posted as soon as it becomes available.
