H.R. 3192, Student Visa Reform Act, introduced by Rep. Lofgren (D-CA) on May 6, 2011, requires F visa students to attend institutions accredited by an accrediting agency recognized by the Secretary of Education. The bill also provides for a 3-year exemption for students in institutions that have been certified by DHS but not yet accredited by an accrediting agency.
On July 12, 2012, H.R. 3120 was reported out of the Judiciary Committee.
On August 1, 2012, H.R. 3120 passed the House on a voice vote.
