On March 13, 2014 President Obama called for a review of the Department of Homeland Security's (DHS) enforcement practices. Given Congress’s inability to the move forward on much-needed and long-overdue legislative reforms, AILA encourages the President to act boldly and swiftly through administrative action on immigration policies to provide much needed relief to families and businesses across the country.
Though a legislative solution is far preferable, in the absence of legislation it is imperative that DHS act, within the bounds of its executive authority, to address three major problem areas in the immigration system: enforcement reform, affirmative relief from deportation, and immigration adjudications.
