S. 1925, introduced by Senators Leahy (D-VT) and Crapo (R-ID) would reauthorize the Violence Against Women Act of 1994. VAWA passed the Senate in April 2012 as amended with a vote of 68 – 31.

AILA was particularly concerned with Section 1008 which: "Amends the Immigration and Nationality Act to include within the definition of "aggravated felony," for purposes of removing an alien from the United States, a third drunk driving conviction."
