ABA Calls on BIA to Discard Procedural Changes Adopted in 2002

The American Bar Association (ABA), on 10/13/03, called on the BIA to discard procedural changes it adopted in 2002. The announcement follows an ABA review of a recent study on the BIA changes which found that they have had a “serious and sweeping effect on the administration of justice.” To view the study, click on the link.
NYC Executive Order Prohibits Inquiries About Immigration Status

In an Executive Order dated 9/17/03, New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg prohibits city officers and employees from inquiring about an individual’s immigration status except under certain enumerated circumstances, such as to determine eligibility for city services or benefits or to investigate illegal activity other than mere undocumented status.
