The proposed rule would revise the regulations to reflect electronic requirements in U.S. passports, such as defining "electronic passport" and including a damaged electronic chip as an additional basis for possible invalidation of a passport. DOS Publishes Final Rule Amending SEVIS Regulations

Effective 2/16/05, the DOS is adding the requirement that consular officers verify SEVIS-generated I-20s and DS-2019s in the Consolidated Consular Database, and verify the payment of applicable SEVIS fees. The rule also makes Border Commuter Students subject to SEVIS requirements. The interim rule became effective 5/23/03. (70 FR 7853, 2/16/05).
