    President Bush announced today that he nominated Alberto Gonzales, current White House counsel, to fill the position of Attorney General. The announcement follows on the heels of yesterday's resignation by former Attorney General John Ashcroft. The appointment of Mr. Gonzales now awaits confirmation in the Senate.
