The AILA Board of Governors is comprised of 4 segments: the elected National Officers, 21 elected at-large Directors who serve staggered 3-year terms, the Chairs of AILA's 36 chapters, a representative of the New Members Division appointed by the President, and all living Past Presidents..
Duties of the Board of Governors (Section 3, Article IV of AILA bylaws)
- Determine the policies of the Association and carry on all the business thereof
- Serves as the appellate body to hear charges brought against chapter members [duty not performed in recent memory]
- Supervise the election of officers and directors; fill officer, director vacancies
Responsibilities of the Board of Governors (traditional)
- Approve Annual Plan and Budget
- Represent the members of AILA
- Understand the issues facing AILA
- Provide financial oversight
- Construe the Bylaws and Association policies
- Satisfy member needs
- Set annual goals and monitor accomplishments
- Provide leadership by example and explanation
