GAO Successful in Obtaining Passport Using Fraudulent Documents
On March 2009 GAO released a report revealing significant vulnerabilities in the Department of State's passport issuance process. GAO conducted four undercover tests using "basic counterfeiting skills" to create fraudulent documents and successfully obtained a U.S. passport in each case.

GAO Issues Report on U.S. Labor Force Statistics: Illustrative Simulations of the Likely Effects of Underrepresenting Unauthorized Workers

On 12/7/09, GAO issued a report on the likely effects of underrepresenting unauthorized workers in U.S. labor force statistics. The GAO simulations showed that adding unauthorized residents not represented in Current Population Survey data would likely have a minimal effect on the overall U.S. unemployment rate. AILA Doc. HRW Report: Locked Up Far Away - The Transfer of Immigrants to Remote Detention Centers in the U.S.
On 12/2/09, Human Rights Watch issued a report that presents new data analyzed for TRAC on the transfer of immigrants to remote detention centers in the U.S. The data show that 53% of the 1.4 million transfers have taken place since 2006, and most occur between state and local jails that contract with ICE to provide detention bed space. GAO Report on DHS US-VISIT

GAO Report on DHS's Efforts to Improve its FOIA Program
A March 2009 GAO study on the measures that DHS has taken to enhance its FOIA program reports that DHS has reduced its FOIA backlog by about 24 percent since implementing a program to try and eliminate overdue requests.
