  • President Signs DOJ Authorization Act into Law (11/4/2002)
    President Bush, on 11/2/02, signed into law the "21st Century Department of Justice Appropriations Authorization Act" (H.R. 2215; PL 107-273). The new law contains immigration provisions impacting, among other things, H-1B status, J-1 physician waivers, and EB-5 entrepreneurs.

  • Earned Adjustment Legislation Introduced in Congress (10/15/2002)
    On October 10, Representative Richard Gephardt (D-MO) introduced the Earned Adjustment and Family Unification Act of 2002 (H.R. 5600). AILA has expressed it support for this legislation as an important first step toward comprehensive reform of our immigration system.

  • President Signs Age-Out Protection Legislation (8/7/2002)
    President Bush on 8/6/02 signed the Child Status Protection Act. The new law addresses the problem of minor children losing their eligibility for certain immigration benefits as a result of INS processing delays.

  • House Approves Legislation to Extend Waiver Program for Foreign Physicians (7/2/2002)
    On 6/25/02, the House passed legislation (H.R. 4858) that would renew and extend for another two years the “Conrad State 20” program, and increase the number of two-year foreign residency waivers a State may request with respect to J-visa medical graduate aliens.
