Currently, an estimated 11 million undocumented immigrants live and work in the United States. Most of them already have deep roots in this country, including strong family ties such as spouses, children, parents, or extended family. AILA applauds the plans offered by President Barack Obama and the bipartisan group of senators to create a roadmap to lawful permanent resident status and eventually citizenship for these 11 million aspiring American citizens living, working, and contributing to our communities. Poll after poll shows that almost two-thirds of American voters support including a road to citizenship as part of any immigration reform package. Across America, millions of immigrants and their families, businesses, and communities-indeed our entire nation-are calling for immigration reform.
