NATIONAL HARBOR, MD - The American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) awarded Deborah Notkin of Barst Mukamal & Kleiner LLP in New York, NY, the 2010 Media Leadership Award in recognition of the individual whose efforts in the media most accurately depict immigration and immigrants. Notkin will receive the award on July 3, 2010 during AILA's Annual Conference held in National Harbor, MD.
AILA recognized Notkin for her leadership as Chair of the AILA Media Advocacy Committee and her extraordinary service as a national spokesperson on comprehensive immigration reform. As an advocate for positive immigration reform, she has appeared on many television and radio programs and has addressed many religious and business organizations.
Notkin remains a resource and occasional commentator for MSNBC, CNBC and Fox News regarding immigration legislation and related issues. Notkin is recognized for her passionate commitment to achieving comprehensive immigration reform and ending the victimization of immigrant communities through the unauthorized practice of law.
She has spoken on panels with representatives from the US Department of Labor, Citizenship and Immigration Services, Legacy INS, Customs and Border Patrol and the Department of State Visa Office and on numerous AILA liaison committees with the various government agencies involved in immigration matters.
