DOS Advises on Changed J Waiver Consular Processing Fees, Effective 3/8/05

Cite as "AILA InfoNet Doc. No. 05030767 (posted Mar. 7, 2005)"

In accordance with Federal Register Public Notice 4984, 70 Fed.Reg. 5372-5377 (Feb. 2, 2005), effective March 8, 2005, $215 will be the required fee for processing DS 3035, applications for J Waiver Recommendation from the State Department, for those exchange visitors who are subject to the two-year home residence requirement of section 212(e) of the Immigration and Nationality Act.

Due to pre-standing agreement with the bank in St. Louis, which processes the application checks for us, any overpayment or underpayment of the correct fee will result in the application package being returned to the sender. Therefore, if the bank receives the old fee, $230, on or after March 8, 2005, even if the application was mailed prior to March 8, 2005, it will consider the fee incorrect and return the fee and the application package to the sender. We apologize in advance for any inconvenience this will cause. If the exchange visitor sent in the application for the J waiver application with the wrong fee and the application was returned, we recommend that the applicant use the new on-line application which should become available after March 10, 2005. The use of the on-line application should expedite the application process. The application and additional information on the waiver process is available on http://www.travel.state.gov/visa/temp/info/info_1296.html.
