The U.S. Embassy in Cairo warns visa applicants and U.S. citizens that as of 10:30 on Thursday, November 29, 2012, the Embassy was blocked by protesters. According to the Regional Security Office, "no departures or arrivals from the Embassy will be permitted until further notice." In addition, the Embassy "strongly urges U.S. citizens to avoid the Garden City area at this time."
According to the U.S. Embassy Cairo Facebook page, all public services, including visas, American Citizen Services, and the IRC, will be closed for the rest of the day, November 29, 2012, due to security issues. The Embassy further indicates on the Facebook page that "All afternoon consular appointments today are cancelled. Vodafone will contact you to reschedule."
