NATIONAL HARBOR, MD - The American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) awarded the AILA 2009-2010 Amicus Committee with the Jack Wasserman Memorial Award for excellence in litigation in the field of immigration law. The committee members will receive the award on July 3, 2010 during AILA's Annual Conference held in National Harbor, MD.

The 2009-2010 AILA Amicus Committee, led by Oregon-based attorney Stephen Manning, has pushed the boundaries on effective legal advocacy and hones the "amicus" voice of AILA for judges and administrative adjudicators reach out to hear and understand AILA's position. The Committee implemented unique strategies to accomplish this paradigm shift including engaging in litigation in all Circuits and filing briefs in important cases. Most recently, the Committee filed an amicus brief in the Arizona district court case of Friendly House v. Whiting supporting a preliminary injunction of the AZ anti-immigrant statute commonly referred to as SB 1070.

The Committee also authored practice advisories, established Circuit monitors, and engaged in AILA Chapter outreach on targeted legal topics. The Committee members author the AILA Slip Opinion Blog at www.ailaslipopinionblog.org.
