NATIONAL HARBOR, MD - The American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) awarded Kathleen Campbell Walker of Brown McCarroll LLP in El Paso, TX the 2010 AILA Service Excellence Award in recognition of her outstanding service, over a period of years, in advancing the mission, development, and value of AILA for its members and the public it serves. She received the award on July 3, 2010 during AILA's Annual Conference held in National Harbor, MD.
No one embodies the concept of service excellence more than Kathleen Campbell Walker. She has served on the AILA Executive Committee (ExCom) since June 2002 when she was elected National Secretary. Walker is now completing her 8th year on ExCom, as its General Counsel. She served as AILA President for 2007-2008 and Chair of the CBP Liaison Committee for 2009-2010.
Walker has chaired and served on numerous liaison and conference committees, both in her ExCom role and prior to 2002 as an individual member. In 2002, she received the AILA Advocacy Award. She received a Presidential Commendation from AILA for her work on the Department of State Liaison Committee in 2001.
She has testified for AILA multiple times before the House and Senate on issues regarding border security, US VISIT, and immigration reform. In addition, she has testified before Texas House and Senate Committees on immigration issues.
Walker has been named by the Texas Lawyer magazine as one of five "go to" lawyers in the State of Texas on immigration law; and as one of the top 50 women lawyers in Texas, top 50 lawyers in Central and West Texas, and a Super Lawyer in the State of Texas by Texas Monthly magazine. In addition, she is recognized in Chambers USA, the International Who's Who of Business Lawyers, and Best Lawyers in America as a leading immigration lawyer.
Kathleen heads the immigration department of Brown McCarroll LLP from the El Paso office. Kathleen is board certified in immigration and nationality law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization (TBLS) and has served as chair of the TBLS exam committee on immigration and nationality law as well as on the Advisory Committee. She has also served on the Standing Committee of the State Bar of Texas on Immigration and Nationality Law.
