H.R. 6136: Border Security and Immigration Reform Act of 2018

On 6/27/18, the House vote on H.R. 6136 failed: 121 to 301. No Democrats voted for the bill, and 112 Republicans voted against it. AILA recommended that representatives vote “no” on H.R. 6136 because they each hold Dreamers hostage in return for provisions that would upend our immigration system and betray our values.

On 6/25/18, a number of amendments were offered, including an amendment by Representative Bob Goodlatte (R-VA), which would expand the E-Verify program, authorize a returning worker exemption for the H-2B program, and create a new agricultural guest worker program.

H.R. 6136, the Border Security and Immigration Reform Act of 2018, would create an avenue for Dreamers to obtain green cards, increase border security funding, eliminate the Diversity Visa lottery program, and reform family immigration and asylum laws.
