SUBJECT: EXTRADITION - UPDATED FORM DS-36 (CERTIFICATE TO BE ATTACHED TO THE DOCUMENTARY EVIDENCE ACCOMPANYING REQUISITIONS IN THE UNITED STATES FOR EXTRADITION)

1. Embassies are advised of the new Form DS-36, which replaces Form FS-36 for the certification of extradition documents. All Embassies should begin using this form immediately. The significant change to this form is that the statutory authority has been updated to read "Title 18, United States Code, Section 3190." (It previously read "Act of Congress of August 3, 1882.")

2. When certifying documents in support of extradition, Embassies should refer to the revised 7 FAM 1633 (02/2005), which provides exceptional detail on the appropriate method for certification. Embassies' assistance in this matter is appreciated.
