DOS Cable on Sunset of Special Immigrant Religious Workers
Ref: 94 State 134833
1. Reminder: The Special Immigrant Religious Worker Provisions, INA 101(A)(27)(C)(ii)(II) and (III) sunset by October 1, 1994. All aliens, principals, and their spouses and children qualifying under the provisions must be admitted to the United States by October 1, 1994.
2. 94 State 134833 of May 20, 1994 explained in detail the sunsetting of these provisions. It should be noted that the Department is not aware of any current legislative action to remove the sunset clause.
3. It is of utmost importance that the validity of the immigrant visa be limited to September 30, 1994. Care must be exercised in this regard because on October 1, 1994 and thereafter, these aliens cannot repeat not be admitted to the U.S. as religious workers, even if they possess a valid immigrant visa.
