In Memoriam: Joseph E. Ching: A Remembrance
AILA mourns the loss of Joseph Eugene Ching, principal of the New Orleans-based Ching Law Firm and long-time AILA member.
Remembrance by Steven Ladik:
When I met Joe 30 years ago, I believe he would come to Texas chapter conferences because many of the other chapters didn't have conferences. New Orleans didn't have a lot of immigration lawyers then either. He immediately stood out by his outgoing personality and dedication to the practice. If you met him once, you never forgot him or his name when you next saw him. As he rose to prominence, he would come to board meetings and offer his sage advice and personal opinions, always being true to himself and with no desire to impress anyone else. I most treasure his friendship, smile, cool look with the pony tail, and engagement on immigration issues. On a fun note, with his pony tail I could visualize him as a character in an old Clint Eastwood-type western movie. I never heard a bad or malicious word spoken by him or about him. He was truly a refined gentleman lawyer whom all will miss.
