Recent Extreme Vetting and National Security Policy Announcements Affecting Refugees, Asylees, LPRs, and Discretionary Applicants

This roundtable will provide AILA members with an opportunity to discuss the most recent national-security-related vetting initiatives and policy shifts impacting refugee, asylum, lawful permanent resident, and discretionary immigration adjudications. Topics will include:

  • USCIS suspension of asylum adjudications across all nationalities.
  • Suspension of adjudications of immigration benefits for nationals of countries subject to the June 4 travel ban, including additional restrictions on visa processing for Afghan nationals.
  • USCIS review and potential re-interview of refugees including those admitted between 2021–2025.
  • USCIS reexamination of all benefit requests approved on or after January 20, 2021 for individuals from countries subject to the June 4 travel ban.
  • Implementation of new negative discretionary factors for nationals of travel ban countries.
