Texas‑Focused Immigration Bond Hearing Practices After Maldonado Bautista

Texas‑Focused Immigration Bond Hearing Practices After Maldonado Bautista

Texas immigration courts and detention facilities sit at the center of today’s bond practice landscape, particularly as detention and transfer patterns continue to shift nationwide. This roundtable will feature Texas based practitioners discussing current immigration bond hearing practices in Texas, with targeted attention to late breaking developments following Maldonado Bautista and how those changes are playing out before local Immigration Judges.

Facilitators will draw on on the ground experience in Texas and surrounding regions to examine evolving custody determinations, evidentiary expectations, and court specific approaches to bond adjudication. The discussion will focus on what is working now in Texas bond hearings, including strategic considerations for preparing bond motions, responding to post–Maldonado Bautista arguments, and adapting advocacy to jurisdiction specific norms—especially when clients are transferred into or out of Texas detention facilities.

Attendees will gain practical guidance on best bond practices in Texas, along with comparative insights from neighboring jurisdictions, to better anticipate regional differences, preserve due process arguments, and maintain effective client communication throughout detention and transfer.

This roundtable is presented by the AILA National ICE Liaison Committee.
