Sign-On Letter Urging Publication of Proposed Criteria for Vaccines as Immunization Requirements for Immigrants

3/19/09 AILA Doc. No. 09032666.

On 3/19/09, AILA joined a group of immigrants' rights, women's rights, public health, medical, and reproductive justice organizations urging the CDC to expedite the publication in the Federal Register of the proposed criteria for identifying Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) recommended vaccines as immunization requirements for immigrants.

It follows a letter from Dr. Richard Besser, M.D., Acting Director, Center for Disease control and Prevention, which stated that the INA requires immigrants and individuals seeking permanent residence in the U.S. to present documentation of having received vaccination against vaccine-preventable diseases recommended by the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP).

See the related sign-on letter calling on the HHS Secretary to retract the HPV vaccine requirement for non-citizen women and girls.
