Expedited Removal in the Interior: Tools and Strategies for Current Enforcement Practices

Expedited Removal in the Interior: Tools and Strategies for Current Enforcement Practices

Live Event Date: 05/01/2025
Format Length CLE Eligible
Web Seminar 90 min. No

Shortly after the inauguration, DHS expanded the scope of the expedited removal program beyond the border and into the interior of the United States. As a result, every encounter with ICE or CBP may now result in the issuance of an expedited removal order without the opportunity to speak with an attorney or contest removal before an immigration judge. Expert panelists will provide guidance on advising clients and conducting risk assessments based on the hazards of expedited removal in the current environment. In addition, they will share updates about how expanded expedited removal is being carried out around the country as well as effective legal arguments and strategies attorneys can use to advocate for their clients.

Featured Topics:

  • Advising clients and conducting risk assessments, including for individuals who have filed for immigration benefits
  • Policy in practice: How expanded expedited removal is being carried out around the country
  • Legal challenges: due process, constitutional violations (including how to document them)
  • Strategies to counteract administrative removals under INA §238
    • Deputization of local law enforcement
  • Who to contact within DHS
