AAP Exclusive: Navigating Difficult Conversations and Client Expectations as a Paralegal

AAP Exclusive: Navigating Difficult Conversations and Client Expectations as a Paralegal

This session is designed for immigration paralegals navigating the challenges of client communication in a complex and often unpredictable legal landscape. We all know that issues such as delays, denials, and limitations in relief options can come up in any case, but how can we best relay this information to clients? In a conversation led by immigration paralegals and attorneys, the group will discuss strategies for delivering difficult news while maintaining trust and professionalism. Participants will leave with practical tools to support honest, empathetic, and effective client interactions. Topics include:

  • Setting realistic expectations from the outset
  • Addressing misinformation
  • Handling emotional or distressed individuals
  • Communicating evolving case developments clearly

This roundtable is an opportunity for AILA Affiliated Paralegals to learn and discuss issues affecting legal staff, in community with each other. It's presented exclusively for AILA Affiliated Paralegals as a benefit of AAP status.
