Immigration law has always been demanding, but today it is uniquely heavy and shaped by political volatility, rapid policy shifts, and cases that unfold in public view. For many practitioners, what was once “secondary trauma” now feels immediate and unavoidable. This session explores what it means to run (and work in) a human-centered immigration practice when the system itself is unpredictable and emotionally charged. We will take an honest look at boundaries, burnout, sustainability and the science behind it. Rather than abstract self-care, the focus is on practical, firm-level strategies that protect you and your people, strengthen culture and allow you to continue doing this critical work without losing yourself in the process.
