AILA and the Protecting Immigrant Families (PIF) Coalition will share an overview of means tested benefits that could harm a client's potential for adjustment of status (AOS) under the 2026 Public Charge Final Rule. With the extension of what is considered a means tested benefit, and how cases are impacted based on who receives it, it has become increasingly important to inform clients of the risks but also avoiding further spreading the chilling effect that the FR has already caused. Join AILA and PIF on this informative roundtable. Please be ready with non-case specific questions to get the conversation going.
Discussion Topics
- What is a means tested benefit?
- Does my client have to disenroll from all medical expense assistance programs?
- Is my client's case affected if the petitioner has previously or is currently obtaining assistance that could be categorized as a means tested benefit?
