Kathleen Campbell Walker Installed as New President of AILA

ORLANDO - The American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) today announced Kathleen Campbell Walker as its new National President for the 2007- 2008 term. She was installed as President during sessions of the association’s 51st Annual Conference in Orlando, FL.
Ms. Campbell Walker is chair of the Immigration Department of Kemp Smith LLP in El Paso, TX where she has practiced for more than 21 years on the U.S./Mexico border. She is board-certified in immigration and nationality law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. Her practice includes all areas of immigration law, but with a special focus on consular processing, admissions, cross-border business immigration, waivers, and security checks along with their associated databases.
Within AILA, Ms. Campbell Walker served for four years as chair of the Department of State Liaison Committee and received a Presidential Commendation from AILA for her work on the committee in 2001. In 2002, she received the National AILA Advocacy Award. As part of her advocacy work, she has testified before the U.S. House and Senate Immigration Subcommittees for AILA regarding homeland security and border security bills. She also testified before the House Select Committee on Homeland Security regarding US-VISIT. During 2006, Ms. Campbell Walker testified in field hearings before the House Administration Committee and the House Immigration Subcommittee on immigration-related bills; and in 2007, she testified before the Texas House State Affairs and Border and International Affairs Committees regarding immigration-related bills introduced during the 80th Texas legislative session.
She is an expert on a variety of immigration-related topics and serves as a leading AILA spokesperson. Ms. Campbell Walker has appeared several times on MSNBC’s "Scarborough Country" and Alison’s Stewart’s "The Most" program to discuss immigration issues. She is quoted regularly in many of the top national news publications, and she has written articles for or edited many AILA publications.
Ms. Campbell Walker has been listed in Best Lawyers in America for immigration law since the subject was recognized by the publication. From 2003 to the present, Ms. Campbell Walker has been named a "Texas Super Lawyer" by Law & Politics magazine for immigration. She is listed in the International Who’s Who of Corporate Immigration Lawyers as one of the leading Texas immigration practitioners, and in Chambers Global and Chambers USA as a leading business immigration lawyer. She is an AV-rated lawyer in Martindale-Hubbell. Ms. Campbell Walker received her B.A. degree with highest honors from Texas Tech University and her J.D. from the University Of Texas School Of Law.
