SAN FRANCISCO, CA - The American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) will award Elise Foley, a reporter for the Huffington Post, with the 2013 Media Leadership Award in recognition of the individual whose efforts in the media most accurately depict immigration and immigrants. Ms. Foley will be recognized today during AILA's Annual Conference in San Francisco, CA.

Ms. Foley is a political reporter for The Huffington Post, covering immigration politics and policy. She previously covered Congress, then the Republican presidential primary, and focused during the general election on immigration politics and the push to win the Latino vote. Some of the immigration issues she is most interested in are deportations, detention and the controversial policies that have led to record removal numbers, such as Secure Communities.

This year she has focused much of her coverage on grassroots efforts for immigration reform and the conflicts brewing in Congress. Foley hopes to continue -- and do more of -- tying people's personal stories of immigration to the policies being proposed, often with the help of immigration attorneys.

She started work on immigration issues at he Washington Independent, and continued coverage when she moved to The Huffington Post two-and-a-half years ago. She is a graduate of Northwestern University's Medill School of Journalism and a proud Colorado native.
