AILA PRESENTS JENNIFER MINEAR WITH THE 2014 SUSAN D. QUARLES AILA SERVICE EXCELLENCE AWARD

BOSTON,MA — The American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) will award Jennifer Minear of Richmond, VA, with the 2014 Susan D. Quarles AILA Service Excellence Award in recognition of her outstanding service, over a period of years, in advancing the mission, development, and value of AILA for its members and the public it serves. She will receive the award today during AILA's Annual Conference in Boston, MA.

Ms. Minear has served AILA as a volunteer in nearly all possible capacities. She has been a member of, or chaired, liaison committees and conference program committees, spoken at numerous AILA conferences, and written for AILA publications. In 2012, she was elected to the AILA Board of Governors (BOG). As a BOG member she took her fiduciary duties seriously, preparing for and participating in tough policy and governance decisions.

Most recently, Ms. Minear was appointed by AILA President Doug Stump to chair the subcommittee that drafted the revised Terms of Use for the AILA Message Center, a daunting but necessary task that will promote professional and collegial dialogue. As part of the drafting process, she and her fellow volunteers met every week for a period of two months and thoroughly considered (and responded in writing to) the comments submitted by AILA members, moderators, outside counsel and the Executive Committee. A model of true leadership, Ms. Minear is professional, gracious, dedicated, and able to stay the course in rough waters.

Ms. Minear directs the Immigration Practice Group at McCandlish Holton , where her practice focuses on employment-based immigration with a particular emphasis on the healthcare sector, including J-1 waiver and green card processing for foreign medical graduates.

She is a frequent panelist and prolific author of articles on physician National Interest Waivers and J-1 clinical waivers for foreign physicians. She sits on AILA's Healthcare Professional/Physicians Committee and is Chair of the Agency Liaison Committee for the International Medical Graduate Taskforce, a national coalition dedicated to assisting foreign-born physicians who provide improved healthcare to rural and underserved areas of the United States.

Jennifer received her B.A. from the University of Maryland and J.D. (cum laude) from Cornell Law School.
