KIND Provides Help Desk for Families Forcibly Separated at the U.S. Border

12/17/21 AILA Doc. No. 21111805. Admissions & Border

Message from KIND:

As many of you know, the Biden Administration’s Family Reunification Task Force launched a new return process available to families who were forcibly separated by U.S. border officials between January 20, 2017 - January 20, 2021. To inform and support families in accessing this process, KIND established a help desk to provide free information, including certain legal information and assistance with referral resources and registration. If you are working with:

  1. A parent or legal guardian who was separated from their child under the age of 18 by U.S. immigration officials at the U.S.-Mexico border between January 20, 2017 - January 20, 2021 OR
  2. A child who was under the age of 18 at the time of separation and was separated from a parent or legal guardian by U.S. immigration officials at the U.S.-Mexico border between January 20, 2017 - January 20, 2021

and they may be interested in returning to the U.S., KIND can help.

Please email familyreunification@supportkind.org or call (213)454-0527 if you would like KIND to provide information about the process or to register the separated parent or child with whom you are working. This contact information can also be found on the together.gov website, the official government website and portal for family reunification. KIND is also conducting outreach to inform families about the process and help them navigate the registration process and is available to answer questions from families or their advocates concerning the return process, including certain legal questions. This work is being completed in partnership with UNHCR and Justice in Motion.

If you plan to register the case yourself, please contact KIND so that we know not to reach out to the individual you will register or have registered. We are contacting all initial and expanded Ms. L class members. We certainly do not want to contact those class members already receiving registration assistance as we do not want to create any confusion, so again, let us know if you will register or have registered an individual and we will not contact them.

To refer separated family members seeking reunification in the United States to KIND directly have them call our tollfree Help Desk.
