WASHINGTON, DC - The American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) recognizes Troutman Pepper with the 2023 Michael Maggio Memorial Pro Bono Award for outstanding efforts in providing pro bono representation in the immigration field.
According to their nominators, the firm’s “commitment to pro bono is among the strongest” ever witnessed in the immigration space, particularly with regard to their leadership in building a pro bono movement in Atlanta, GA, and in the founding of the Georgia Asylum and Immigration Network (GAIN). “For over fifteen years, their commitment to pro bono immigration work has been unwavering” as their volunteers have shown time and time again that “they are not only willing to ensure high quality immigration legal services for our clients, but they are also ready to go the distance to help them access the justice they deserve.”
Troutman Pepper is a national law firm with more than 1,200 attorneys strategically located in 23 U.S. cities. The firm’s litigation, transactional, and regulatory practices advise a diverse client base, from start-ups to multinational enterprises. The firm prides itself on encouraging their attorneys and staff to give back to their communities in areas in which they are passionate, creating a pro bono practice that is greatly varied in both the populations served and the areas of law practiced. Assisting immigrants, veterans, wrongfully convicted persons, and local nonprofit organizations are just a few examples of how the firm is working to improve access to justice. In 2022, nearly one-fifth of Troutman Pepper’s pro bono hours were dedicated to immigration matters, serving clients who are asylum-seekers, trafficking victims, refugees, unaccompanied children and more.
The American Immigration Lawyers Association is the national association of immigration lawyers established to promote justice, advocate for fair and reasonable immigration law and policy, advance the quality of immigration and nationality law and practice, and enhance the professional development of its members.
