Ciudad Juarez Advises on Document Requirements

3/9/94 AILA Doc. No. 94040759. Consular Processing

Mr. Parsons:

This is in response to your recent letter dated February 17, 1994, regarding the requirement of applicants to present official documents in addition to attorney certified copies.

It has always been the policy to this post to have applicants bring the original documentation to their immigrant visa interviews. We routinely compare originals with certified copies and will continue to administer this practice in the future. Official records are a vital part of the immigrant visa process and being able to compare originals with certified copies allows us to be even more thorough on our adjudications.

It is still acceptable to submit attorney-certified copies of official records, but the possibility that they will be asked to produce originals is very high. Therefore, we recommend that applicants bring in their original documentation with their copies.

I hope this information is helpful to you. If there is any other way I can be of assistance, please do not hesitate to ask.
