SEVP to Update Form I-17 Filing Procedures

10/1/16 AILA Doc. No. 19060260. Students & Schools

From ICE’s website:

  • Form I-17 Filing Evidence - On October 1, 2016 the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) instituted a requirement to submit minimal evidence upon filing a Form I-17, “Petition for Approval of School Attendance by Nonimmigrant Student,” and any updates to the Form I-17 Petition. Please visit the Schools section of ICE.gov/SEVP for more information.

ICE alert that the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) will soon ask that designated school officials (DSOs) filing an initial or update to the Form I-17, “Petition for Approval of School Attendance by Nonimmigrant Student,” submit the minimal necessary evidence required for adjudication at the same time they submit their request in the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS). The SEVP recertification process already requires schools to submit the necessary evidence when filing, and thus the recertification process will not be changing at this time.
