WASHINGTON, DC – The American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) is proud to release the fifth edition of Litigating Immigration Cases in Federal Court, authored by Robert Pauw. The book provides both expert guidance and a summary of case law, updated for practitioners defending noncitizens who are subject to removal or who have been denied immigration benefits to which they are entitled.
AILA Executive Director Benjamin Johnson noted, “Immigrants rightly feel that their situation is more precarious than ever, given the administration’s continued attacks. In this climate, all immigration lawyers need to consider new strategies to ensure that clients receive due process. Federal litigation is a powerful, important way to ensure that the fundamental principles of liberty, fairness, and due process of law are protected and upheld, ensuring that every person is given their fair day in court.”
The new edition is an essential guide for individuals challenging immigration decisions in federal court. Newer practitioners who are filing a lawsuit in federal court for the first time will benefit from an excellent introduction and overview of the major challenges litigators encounter. For more experienced practitioners, the book provides "Quick Cites"- editorially vetted favorable cases (with quotes from the most relevant passages) that the author considers to be particularly useful in brief writing.
Litigating Immigration Cases in Federal Court, includes advice on:
