USCIS Asylum Office Memo on Case Transfers Affecting the 180-Day Asylum EAD Clock
A 4/5/16 memo from John Lafferty, Chief of the Asylum Division, advising of modifications to the Refugees, Asylum and Parole System (RAPS) that affect the 180-day asylum EAD clock for cases that are being transferred. Previously, RAPS automatically stopped the 180-day asylum EAD clock when changing addresses and transferring cases to different interviewing locations in most cases. This release discontinues the automatic clock stoppages. However, where a future interview dates exists in RAPS at the time of the transfer, RAPS will automatically stop the clock.
