NATIONAL HARBOR, MD - The American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) awarded Maurice H. Goldman of Goldman & Goldman PC in Tucson, AZ with the 2010 Joseph Minsky Young Lawyer Award for his outstanding contributions in the field of immigration and nationality law. He will receive the award on July 3, 2010 during AILA's Annual Conference held in National Harbor, MD.
Maurice "Mo" Goldman joined AILA in 2001, following in the footsteps of his mother Gloria Goldman, a long-time active AILA member herself. After receiving a law degree from Hofstra University in 2000, he opened his own office in Garden City, New York. While practicing in New York, Goldman served on numerous local chapter committees and remained highly active in the AILA chapter.
After moving to Arizona, Goldman served as the AILA Chapter Chair from 2007-2009. He has worked as liaison at the local level to government agencies including Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Patrol (CBP). On a national level, Goldman has served on the AILA Board of Publications, the Family Immigration Committee, the Pro Bono Committee, and the American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators (AAMVA) Liaison Committee.
He has worked on numerous pro bono cases for Violence Against Women Act (VAWA), special immigrant juvenile, and U-visa applicants. He has served on the Board of Directors for the Nassau County Coalition Against Domestic Violence and currently with ASISTA Immigrant Assistance. Goldman has also been an active participant with the American Immigration Council ("AIC") and has served as an AIC ambassador for Arizona. He currently serves on the Board of Directors for Immigrants List and Tucson-based Border Action Network.
