AG Sends Letters to Leadership of Sanctuary Jurisdictions

The Department of Justice (DOJ) posted letters, dated 8/13/25, from Attorney General Pamela Bondi to the leaders of various sanctuary jurisdictions. The letter requests a response by 8/19/25 indicating how the jurisdictions will wind down sanctuary policies. Letters were sent to nearly all cities, states, and counties on DOJ’s list of sanctuary jurisdictions.

Letters were sent to leadership of the states of California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Minnesota, New York, Oregon, Rhode Island, Vermont, and Washington; the cities of Albuquerque, Berkeley, Boston, Chicago, Denver, East Lansing, Hoboken, Jersey City, Los Angeles, New Orleans, New York, Newark, Paterson, Philadelphia, Portland, Rochester, Seattle, and San Francisco; Cook County, Illinois; San Diego County, California; and San Francisco County, California.
