WASHINGTON, DC – In response to the tragic violence in Dallas this morning, AILA issued the following statement:
We are deeply saddened by the tragic shooting at the Dallas Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility that has resulted in the loss of life and injury to multiple individuals, including at least two detainees. Our hearts go out to all those affected by this senseless act of violence—the victims, their families, and the community grappling with this horrific event.
This tragedy serves as a stark reminder that behind every immigration case number is a human being deserving of dignity, safety, and respect. Whether they are individuals navigating the immigration process, public servants carrying out their duties, or professionals working within the system, all deserve to be free from violence and fear.
The immigration system affects real people with their lives, fears, and hopes for the future. Today's tragedy underscores the urgent need for all of us—regardless of our positions on immigration policy—to engage in this national conversation with compassion, respect for human life, and a commitment to the safety and wellbeing of every person.
