WASHINGTON, DC - The American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) recognizes Stef Kight of Axios and Andrew Kreighbaum of Bloomberg Law with the 2025 Media Leadership Award, given to individuals whose efforts in the media most accurately depict immigration and immigrants.
Stef Kight serves as a congressional reporter at Axios and is the co-author of the Hill Leaders newsletter. She is a regular guest on major networks including Fox News, CNN and MSNBC. Ms. Kight has spent years covering immigration policy and politics and regularly scoops major policy decisions, analyzes public and internal data, highlights political shifts, and is able to compellingly share first-hand accounts of the effects of government actions on migrants and U.S. communities. Her coverage of crises such as family separation brought direly needed attention to complex and often heartwrenching situations, speaking to a key audience of changemakers on the Hill and across the nation. Ms. Kight previously worked on the breaking news desk at Axios. She covered the 2016 election as the lead writer for the award-winning We the People Snapchat Discover Channel. She graduated from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia.
Andrew Kreighbaum reports on immigration in the workplace for Bloomberg Law. His coverage spans topics including foreign tech workers, seasonal labor, and temporary humanitarian programs like Temporary Protected Status (TPS) and parole. Mr. Kreighbaum’s ability to take extremely complex, if not downright byzantine, immigration concepts and make them accessible is a true talent. He is an expert at ensuring the key reasons immigration law and policy matter get across to Bloomberg Law readers by explaining their import and impact. He previously reported on education policy for Bloomberg Government and Inside Higher Ed. His journalism career began in local Texas newspapers with stops at the El Paso Times, The Monitor, and the Laredo Morning Times. He is a Dallas native and earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas at Austin and a master’s in journalism from the University of Missouri.
