AILA Welcomes Agreement by Biden Administration to Protect Families from Inhumane Policy Instituted Under Trump
WASHINGTON, DC – The Department of Homeland Security announced a proposed agreement struck between litigators and the Biden Administration which will protect families from the inhumane practice of family separation instituted under then-President Trump.
Ben Johnson, Executive Director of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) stated, “It was a gross injustice that the prior administration implemented to separate parents from their children as part of multiple policies aimed at undermining America’s asylum system. AILA and our members are heartened to see that the families directly impacted by this inhumane treatment are being offered some important measures such as three years of parole and work authorization as well as other assistance as they seek safe footing after such heartbreaking turmoil. Also vitally important is the fact that the agreement will do much to ensure that America’s values of protecting family unity are upheld and that future administrations never adopt similar horrific family separation policies.”
