AILA Presents Alexis S. Axelrad with the 2020 Susan D. Quarles AILA Service Excellence Award

WASHINGTON, DC - The American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) recognizes Alexis S. Axelrad, of New York, NY, with the 2020 Susan D. Quarles AILA Service Excellence Award, in recognition of her outstanding service, over a period of years, in advancing the mission, development, and value of AILA for its members and the public it serves.

Born in New York City, Alexis S. Axelrad has almost two decades of experience in immigration and nationality law. Ms. Axelrad received her B.A. from the University of Maryland at College Park (1994.) After earning her J.D. from New York Law School (1997), she was admitted to practice in New York in 1998.

Ms. Axelrad has been active in AILA since she began practicing law. Ms. Axelrad currently serves as an elected director of AILA National's Board of Governors and as the Chair of AILA National’s Customs and Border Protection (CBP). She served as the Chair of the Vermont Service Center committee from June 2013 to June 2015 and as Past Vice-Chair and member of AILA National’s U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) Headquarters Benefits/Policy Committee for over a decade. Ms. Axelrad is a past Chair of the New York Chapter of AILA and is currently the chair of the New York Chapter of AILA’s CBP Committee. Ms. Axelrad is also an elected member of the Board of Directors of the Executives Association of New York.

Ms. Axelrad was the author of quarterly column on immigration matters published in the New York Law Journal and the researcher and writer of U.S. Immigration Laws: Working, Living and Studying in America (1999). Ms. Axelrad maintains a busy corporate and family-based immigration practice with an emphasis on interaction with the various offices of Department of Homeland Security and the Justice Department including USCIS, Department of State, and Customs and Border Patrol.

The American Immigration Lawyers Association is the national association of immigration lawyers established to promote justice, advocate for fair and reasonable immigration law and policy, advance the quality of immigration and nationality law and practice, and enhance the professional development of its members.
